Zaccai Curtis Quintet brings, not just a propelling concept, but some very talented friends: Craig Handy on Saxophone, Luques Curtis on Bass, Reinaldo de Jesus on Percussion and Joe Dyson on Drums. This ensemble expands on the "Cubop" concept, exploring original music that challenges the boundaries of Latin Jazz. Zaccai mixes the classical elements with the sounds of New Orleans as well as traditional Afro-Puerto Rican Bomba with the addition of Brevan Hampden on drums and Reinaldo De Jesus on percussion. These elements mixed with the mastery of Craig Handy on Sax and flute and either Mike Boone or Luques Curtis on bass create one of the most exciting new sounds in Jazz. Zaccai Curtis has performed at the National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Headlined the Hartford Jazz festival performed at the Side Door Jazz Club in CT as well as numerous clubs in New York City. With his other bands, Curtis has lead his own ensembles at the Pittsburgh Jazz Festival, Dizzy’s Club NYC, Blue Note NYC, Jazz Standard, Kennedy Center, Havana Jazz Festival, Miami International Jazz Festival, Chris’ Jazz Café, Scullers, Montclair Jazz Festival, Litchfield Jazz Festival, Hartford Jazz Festival, Springfield Jazz Festival, Smalls, Caramoor Jazz Festival, Jazz Gallery NYC, New Haven Jazz Festival, Yale Concert Series and more...
